There are lots of places to eat in Sandown and in the Isle of Wight overall. Here’s a few we love and why.
We recommend booking ahead especially at peak times.
The Beach Shack
A great place, good quality food again & for breakfast, lunch or in summer dinner. Because of its location opening times can be weather dependent so best to call if in doubt.
It is right on the beach & on a sunny day you can eat/have a drink whilst the children play on the beach. They have a beautiful roof terrace too which is a proper sun trap. A typical surf dude shack with lovely owners who will do all they can to accommodate.

Fins Beach Cafe
This fantastic outdoor Cafe looking out to sea. It has a very creative and healthy menu. Perfect for breakfast or lunch or a late afternoon cocktail. Everything we have tried is stunning . Opens every day 8.30am – 5pm.
The Revenment, Sandown, PO36 8JX
Tradewinds Beach Cafe
Located on the revenment between Sandown & Shanklin this has become a firm lunchtime favourite with us. It is the perfect halfway stop on our walks from Sandown to Shanklin with our dog Bruce. The food is excellent, the decor lovely, outdoor dining but covered & cozy for those colder breezy days. Dog friendly.
25, Cliff Path, Sandown, PO36 8PL 07928 174243
The Ocean Deck
Inside this place is a little run down but it has a great decked terrace right opposite the beach.
Lovely place to sit, have a drink, or a meal. The food is always good & they specialise in seafood. They also do a Sunday carvery which we have never had but I have to say, looks good.
It’s dog friendly inside on the lower deck and outside, of course.
The Ocean Deck, The Esplanade, Sandown, Isle of Wight, P036 8AE. 01983 40396
Very good food, Italian/Mediterranean. Nice décor inside so a good place if the weather isn’t so good, again lovely outdoor terrace looking out to sea.
Only dog friendly outside.
The Reef, The Esplanade, Sandown, Isle of Wight, P036 8AE – 01983 403219
A Beach Bar right on the beach and centrally located along the beach, great any time of day, foods from around the world & good for cocktails as the sun sets over Sandown Bay. Outside seating and inside but really cool and laid back.
Dog friendly & great for children as its on the beach!
37 Culver Parade, Sandown, P036 8AT – 01983 404004
The Old Commical
The oldest pub in Sandown, est. 1859. Recently refurbished and to a very high standard. Cosy, live music & big garden. It’s a great pub. We love it. Full of friendly locals who love dogs.
15 St John’s Road, Sandown, Isle of Wight, PO36 83E – 01983 403848
10 minute drive from Wight Waves holidays.
Gastropub overlooking Bembridge Airfield. The food & service is great. Best Mussels I’ve had in the UK. The sauce was amazing. I like the calmness of the place too. Busy but not too crowded, tables are nicely spaced in both the restaurant & bar areas. Dogs are allowed in the bar eating area & they have a great outdoor seating to watch the light aircraft arriving & departing.
Ye Olde Village Inn
Quaint village pub in the heart of the village, it’s been reputed to have been selling pints since 1787! Great pub & serves superb pizza cooked in their pizza oven in the covered garden.
Their main menu features pub classics to risotto’s & curries & they have around 10 specials a day to include locally reared meats & fresh fish from the harbour. Lots of live music here and a vibrant and busy local attraction. Super cool original diddy pub with an amazing atmosphere.
61, High Street, Bembridge, Isle of Wight, P035 5SF – 01983 872616
The Yarbridge Inn
We haven’t eaten here yet but we have been told by numerous people its excellent and a place for a special meal. Just a 5 minute drive from Wight Waves holidays.
Dog friendly in a small area.
Brading, Sandown, PO36 0AA – 01983 405585
This is one of our favourites. Run by a lovely Italian family. The food is fantastic…I always have King Prawn Portofino & Carl Steak with the famous Bonchurch sauce. The also have “life changing” lasagne!!! Highly recommend this little gem.
Bonchurch Shute, Bonchurch, Isle of Wight, PO38 1NU – 01983 852611
Spyglass – Ventnor
Great place, great food, sit by the sea in the day or inside at night where there is nightly live music.
Waterfront – Shanklin
Our favourite in Shanklin, nice food with a French touch. Huge outdoor seating area looking out to sea including a heated area meaning even in winter you can enjoy the outdoor view.
Steamer Inn – Shanklin
Same group as the Spyglass in Ventnor. Large menu with daily specials.
Hollier’s Hotel – Shanklin Old Village
Great if you fancy a carvery, served 5 – 8pm weekdays and 12 – 8pm Sundays for £9.50 (when we last checked). Please do check times though before visiting as these could be subject to change.

Dell Café, Puckpool Ryde
We love this place, for us breakfast, brunch & lunch but they also do dinner in the summer months. It looks across the solent & is a great place to watch the ships pass by especially the cruise ships. Great for walking dog as it is right on the beach with views of Portsmouth. Easy walk to Ryde too.
Beaches here are also dog friendly, all year round.
If you are visiting with children this place comes highly recommended by our guests as they have a fantastic outdoor play area & a great menu for both you & your smaller people.
The Hut – Colwell Bay
This wonderful cool, stylish seafood restaurant is a restaurant for a very special treat/occasion. It is extremely popular and many people arrive from the mainland by boat. James Martin really put this restaurant on the map after featuring it in one of his TV programmes some years ago. Booking well ahead of your holiday is essential if you want peak times. It is pricey but the quality of food, service & ambience would be difficult to find elsewhere on the Island.
The Waterfront Bar & Restaurant – Totland Bay
Delightful restaurant overlooking the turquoise waters of Totland Bay. Booking is recommended and ask for a window table.
Dog friendly in the bar area.
The George – Yarmouth
The restaurant at this hotel is wonderful & it has a beautiful terrace for those sunny warm days. It is pricey but the food & setting are beautiful & well worth it.
Recommended as affordable good food by guests.
